Kolkata based NGO EkTara teams up with Tomorrowland for the creation of a Tomorrowland Foundation Music & Arts School by Ektara

Friday, 2 December 2022 - EkTara partnered with the Tomorrowland Foundation, a foundation created by the largest and most popular electronic music festival in the world. Together they created the Tomorrowland Foundation Music & Arts School in EkTara. This 7.000 sq ft large school and performance space has been built within the existing EkTara Learning Centre in the heart of the largest slum communities in Kolkata. It will allow young girls and women from the communities to attend music, dance, arts and theatre classes and express themselves creatively. Both the Tomorrowland Foundation and EkTara are convinced that education should not be restricted to learning to read and write. The ability to express yourself creatively is also part of the personal development of children and youngsters.

The school will also open its doors to children enrolled from other non-profits, budget private schools and government schools in the city. It aims to reach out to 5.000 children in the next four years.

EkTara has been able to set up this state of the art school with support from the Tomorrowland Foundation, who have also committed to partially support the running cost.

The Tomorrowland Foundation Music & Arts School has been formally inaugurated on the 2nd of December at the EkTara Learning Centre in Kolkata, in presence of team members of We Are One World, the Belgian company behind Tomorrowland.

The Tomorrowland Foundation Music & Arts School by EkTara is the second of its kind in the world, with the other one in Nepal. This school will offer classes in music, dance, arts, theatre, photography and other visuals and performing arts. This will give the vulnerable children a chance to express themselves creatively, work on their self-esteem, and create avenues to explore their talents and interests. All of these coupled with good education will enable these children to break out of the cycle of poverty and lead dignified lives as contributing members of society.
