Tomorrowland Foundation empowers children and youngsters worldwide for a brighter tomorrow
Among them, a large number of girls and young women whom we want to put in the spotlight in honor of the International Woman’s Day
Friday, 7 March 2025 - Since its creation in 2016, the Tomorrowland Foundation has collaborated with independent non-profit organizations around the world, giving vulnerable children and youngsters the opportunity to express themselves creatively through music, dance, and art while building their self-esteem. With Music & Arts Schools in Nepal, India, and Brazil—established in collaboration with respected and trusted local NGOs such as Cunina, EkTara, and Arracê—as well projects supported in East Africa with Join for Joy and the globally active Mobile School, and a collaboration with Mobile School, the Tomorrowland Foundation empowers vulnerable children and youngsters worldwide, regardless of gender.
However, in honor of International Women’s Day, the Tomorrowland Foundation is proud to put EkTara and Ballet AYO into the spotlights, both striving specifically to empower the next generation of women.
Ek Tara Learning Center: Empowering girls through knowledge and the arts
Operating in the poorest slums of Kolkata, Ek Tara is dedicated to addressing the complex challenges faced by local girls and women, including poverty, societal patriarchy, and the caste system. Every day, over 1,200 young girls aged 4 to 18 receive quality education at the learning center, providing them with the skills and opportunities to build a better future.
In 2022, the Tomorrowland Foundation partnered with Ek Tara to establish a Music & Arts School within the premises of the Learning Center. This initiative offers a diverse range of artistic disciplines, allowing vulnerable girls and young women to express themselves creatively, strengthen their self-esteem, and explore their talents and passions. By combining arts and education, the program helps these children break free from the cycle of poverty and build dignified, independent futures as active members of society.
The story of Ashiyana
The inspiring story of Ashiyana Khatoon is one of resilience and determination. Ashiyana Khatoon is a dedicated and hardworking woman, known for setting an inspiring example for her two daughters, who are both students at Ek Tara. Despite facing opposition from her husband, who initially restricted her from attending classes, Ashiyana remained steadfast in her commitment to her education. Her passion and determination ultimately won over her family, who now see her as a role model for their children.
Ballet AYO: Empowering girls through dance and cultural identity
Since 2024, the Tomorrowland Foundation has been supporting Ballet AYO, a transformative project that provides 200 girls and young women (aged 6 to 14) with the opportunity to develop classical ballet skills while fostering self-confidence, inclusion, and cultural identity.
Active in the favelas of North São Paulo, Ballet AYO breaks barriers by introducing Afro-Latin girls to the world of ballet—an art form often perceived as exclusive to privileged backgrounds. More than just a dance program, it serves as a platform for self-expression and empowerment, celebrating the richness of Afro-Brazilian culture while building essential life skills.
The impact of Ballet AYO speaks for itself:
- 90% of participants showed significant improvement in technique and posture.
- 80% demonstrated noticeable progress in choreography execution.
- Parents and families reported increased discipline, confidence, and perseverance among the girls.
Beyond dance, Ballet AYO sparks conversations on identity and addresses the challenges girls face in the classical ballet world, paving the way for a more inclusive and diverse future in the arts.
